The Queen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Presidents of the Republics of France and Guyana and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom have sent congratulatory messages on the occasion of St. Kitts and Nevis‘ 25th Anniversary of Independence on September 19th .
 
Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands (Holland) in a message to Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian said the celebration gives her the opportunity to extend congratulations and best wishes for a prosperous future for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
 
French President, His Excellency Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy in his
congratulatory message to Sir Cuthbert reiterated the strengthening of the relations which bring France and St. Kitts and Nevis together and to the development of cooperation including the framework of the regional organisations such as the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), CARICOM, CARIFDORUM and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

Nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis from several areas of England converged on Leeds on Sunday to mark the Federation’s 25th Anniversary of Independence.

According to Kittitian Cris Collins, nationals residing in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Leicester turned out in large numbers to attend the Service of Thanksgiving at the St. Martins Church.

He said that local Member of Parliament, Hon. Fabian Hamilton along with the Deputy Mayor of Leeds were among the officials who attended the service, which was led by  Rev. Steven.

The Sermon was delivered by Bishop Beulah Lee who gave the sermon.

St. Kitts and Nevis’ High Commissioner to the Court of St. James, His Excellency Dr. James Williams, delivered the 2008 Independence Message from the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

In his message, Prime Minister Douglas said the special milestone is celebrated in the knowledge that the citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis have been able to make significant strides in the socio-economic development in spite of the numerous challenges faced.

St. Kitts and Nevis Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas will be among nationals of the twin-island Federation attending the National Day of Prayer and State Service to mark the 25th Anniversary of Independence on Sunday 14th September.

The Service, to which the general public is invited, will be held at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium is organised and conducted jointly by the St. Kitts Christian Council and the St. Kitts Evangelical Association. It begins at 6:00 P.M.

According to the Order of Service, Pastor Lincoln Connor of the Antioch Baptist Church will deliver the Welcome Remarks. The Call to Worship will come from Rev. Fr. Isaiah Phillip of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church and Vice Chairman of the St. Kitts Christian Council.

Bishop Ron Collins of the New Testament Church of God in Tabernacle will lead the congregation in Praise and Worship and Rev. Fr. Bernard Latus of the Co-Cathedral of St. John-Basseterre will say prayers for the Federation.

The United Kingdom Department of International Development (DFID) is pumping US$1.2 million into the Pan-Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP).

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Wednesday between St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) Representative, Jane Armstrong, during the Opening Ceremony of the 10th Meeting of the Regional Coordinating Mechanism of the Pan-Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel and Casino.

The grant of £600,000 (about US$1.2 million) to PANCAP is to support its core budget until June 2009.

“This contribution by DFID represents the first practical commitment to the principle of pooled funding that PANCAP has advocated for some time now; and we applaud DFID for this pioneering effort,” said Prime Minister Douglas when he delivered the feature address.

Dr. Douglas used the opportunity to place on record his personal thanks and those of his colleague Prime Ministers to the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the European Union (EU), German Development Bank, The Global Fund, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), United States Government and the World Bank for the funding support provided through PANCAP since its birth in 2001.
