St. Kitts and Nevis continues to chalk up an impressive report card for press freedom.
With the recently released Freedom House 2009 Freedom of the Press survey ranking, St. Kitts and Nevis is at number 8 among 35 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and 30 out of 195 nations worldwide.
In the regional ranking, the twin-island federation is classified as having a “free” press with 17 other nations. In at # 8, St. Kitts and Nevis is behind Jamaica at #1; St. Lucia at #2; St. Vincent and the Grenadines at #3; the United States at #4; Barbados at #5; Canada at #6 and Costa Rica at # 7. The Bahamas at 9; Belize at #10; Dominica at #11; Trinidad and Tobago at #13; Grenada at #14; Guyana at #17; Antigua and Barbuda at #18; and the Dominican Republic is at #19.
St. Kitts and Nevis ranked 8 among 35 nations in 2008; 10 among 35 in 2007; 11 among 35 in 2006; 13 in 2005 and 2004.
World-wide, at 30 among 195 countries in the global ranking, St. Kitts and Nevis is ahead of the United Kingdom (31) the Bahamas (32); Austria (33); Belize (34); Australia (38); Dominica (40); France (41); Taiwan (46); Trinidad and Tobago (47); Grenada (49) Guyana (66) and Antigua and Barbuda (81).
