The Federation To Host Climate Change Conference

A March 08 and 09 conference on climate change in the Caribbean will enable regional specialists to grapple with, not only the scientific dimensions of global warming and the environmental consequences of global warming, but most importantly its ethical dimensions.

St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said global warming is causing and will continue to cause droughts ““ which means human suffering and death

“It is also causing and will continue to cause floods, massive storms, and sea level rises ““ which also cause human suffering and loss of life.  Global warming, then, cannot be discussed merely in terms of the science involved.  It must also be discussed in terms of its human costs and consequences because whenever there are human consequences associated with any phenomenon, the ethical implications must, of necessity, be examined,” said Prime Minister Douglas, during his weekly radio call-in programme “Ask the Prime Minister.”

He pointed out that ethical dimensions of global warming is an issue on which the international community has been readying itself to take a position and the Caribbean is asserting the importance of the insights being appropriately reflected in the position that is finally assumed by the international community and the March 08 and 09 conference will do this.
