The Inland Revenue Department on the Bay Road is to be temporarily relocated to The Palms Complex in The Circus.
Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Mrs. Beverly Williams said the relocation of the Inland Revenue Department is to allow construction of a third floor on the building which houses the General Post Office on the ground floor.
She said the Department will serve the public from the new location at The Palms Complex with effect from Monday 16th November.
“The number of employees has more than doubled. Since taking up the post in 1995, new services have been implemented and the number of clients has increased significantly. The employees have risen from 20 to the present 59 and there is a need to accommodate the officers so that they can serve the public,” said Mrs. Williams.
She said the building was constructed in 1962 with adequate provisions for a third floor. Construction of the third floor should be completed in four to six months from the start of construction.
The Inland Revenue Department is responsible for administering the tax laws in an efficient and equitable manner, to promote voluntary compliance and to maximise revenue.
