A graduate of the Cayon High School was crowned the 2008/2009 Miss Saddle Fiesta on Friday night.

“It was like any other day, but it is a new experience,” said 17-year-old Phelicia Warner, who also won the Best Introductory Speech and Best Beach Wear segments. Her beach wear was dubbed “Exotic pink” and her evening wear “Lady in Green.”

Ms. Warner aims to become a lawyer and begins a course in law and business at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College this month. She amassed a total of 286.5 points and was crowned by her predecessor, Elvecia Glasgow.

During her reign she plans to get help the youths and get them involved in programmes. “The youths need to be encouraged and given assistance. We need to introduce interesting activities,” said Ms. Warner in an interview with the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister (CUOPM).

The Aquarius-born Saddlers beauty said she would like the Saddle Fiesta Committee to “organise other activities such as workshops for the youths on a regular basis outside of festival events.”

First Runner-Up was Keirish Richardson, who was judged Ms. Photogenic and Best Evening Wear, received 280.5 points and Second Runner-Up, Cherane’ Fyfield, judged Best Talent, received 245 points. 19-year-old Peline Isaac was judged Miss Congeniality. The other contestant was 15-year-old Denecia Davis.

All the contestants received participation trophies which were presented by Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Information and technology, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty, who is also a resident of Harris’.

The contestants made appearances in the traditional fanfare, introduction, swim wear, talent and evening wear.
