Charter students of the new Saddler’s Secondary have been told they must focus on a purpose if they want to achieve.
In the presence of Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative, Hon. Dr. Denzil L Douglas; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Hon. Sam Condor; Permanent Secretary, Mr. Osmond Petty, School Principal, Mr. Stanley Knight and parents, Chief Education Officer, Dr. Patrick Welcome told every boy and girl they must have a purpose.
“You must have something in mind that you want to achieve. Parents should also help you. They should also know what they want for their children and they should continue to remind you that you must have a purpose. Some of you are coming because you want to be a doctor, you want to be a Chief Education Officer or a good policeman,” said Dr. Welcome to the first year students of the new school.
“You will have to focus. Do not be distracted. If you want to become an engineer, focus on that. You we have all the facilities that are not in some of the other schools and so you must be focused,” said Welcome, warning that some students focus on the wrong things.
“Some students focus on being rude to teachers. Some people focus on having a knife in their bag when you come to school, some focus on just being rude and so on, but I want you to focus on your goals, focus on your purpose and that is how you will achieve,” he said.
Dr. Welcome also told the over 60 students that if they are going to be successful they must surround themselves with good people.
“Some of you have good goals. Some of you have a good purpose. You must at all times focus on those purposes. You must not surround yourself with people who are negative as you will lose focus and then lose your purpose. You need to surround ourselves with good people,” he advised.
“We need to surround ourselves with good teachers. We as parents must be good parents because once you do that; they will encourage you to achieve your purpose. That is very important. As you come to school there are those who are going to be distractive. Beware of the distractions and stay focus on your purpose,” said Dr. Welcome.
“You have the best. We have given you the best school. We have given you the best teachers. We have given you the best principal. All you have to do is to come to school with a purpose. Focus on your purpose and in you will be good students and you will achieve.”
