Security professionals from throughout the region are now better positioned to detect and combat cyber-based terrorism with the culmination of a three-day seminar earlier today.

The conference on Digital Investigations and Security provided a basic understanding of the role of computers in monitoring and protecting government network components from criminal acts including terrorism. It focused on raising the capacity of law enforcement officers to identify, prevent, investigate as well as prosecute offending parties for such activities.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is encouraging residents of St. Kitts and Nevis to remain vigilant as the hurricane season continues.

Last week, the coastline of the twin-island Federation was battered by the Category 3 Hurricane Omar, which passed 120 miles northwest of the islands.

National Disaster Coordinator Carl Herbert said he was pleased with the response of the public in preparation of the storm, dismissing the fears by some that the absence of a hurricane impact in almost a decade has encouraged complacency.

Nevis Economy Is Still Growing

The Nevis Island Government led by the Nevis Reformation Party, continues to bring economic diversification and growth to Nevis. The most recent example came when the Premier signed an agreement with 21st Century Corporation, on Tuesday, October 21st at the Conference Room of the Bath Hotel.

Founder and CEO of 21st Century telecommunications Mr.Alec Saini headed a delegation of four officials, who looked on as Mr. Saini signed an agreement with the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) that would establish the company’s headquarters in Nevis.

The site of the headquarters would be in the Jessups area where Premier Parry said a training center and a boutique hotel would be built, to accommodate persons working for the company.
