Kudos For St. Kitts – Nevis Sports Tourism

The sporting facilities being constructed by the Ministry of Sports around the island will raise the chances of St. Kitts and Nevis being successful in the sports tourism sub-sector.

This is the firm belief of Donald Lockerbie, President of OLYMPVS INTERNATIONAL LLC – a worldwide sports facility and operations consulting firm, based in North Carolina (USA), Barbados and Switzerland.

Lockerbie, who served as Venue Development Director for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, is highly respected in international circles and is considered to be the pre-eminent planner of many of the United States’ most acclaimed football and track and field facilities.

He became familiar with St. Kitts and Nevis during his CWC duties, as the refurbished Warner Park served as the venue for first round matches for four teams including world champions Australia as well South Africa. Mr. Lockerbie visited Saint Kitts and Nevis last week and attended the opening of the 37th CARIFTA Games.

PBS To Film Documentary About Nevis Born Alexander Hamilton

President of a United Sates based production company Manifold Production Inc. Mr. Michael Park and his wife Gina, spent one day on Nevis on Tuesday March 25, 2008, on a fact finding mission in preparation for a documentary on the early life of Alexander Hamilton, who was born in Nevis and spent his formative years on the island.
 
In an interview with the Department of Information, Mr. Park explained that the 90 minute documentary would be filmed in 2009 and aired on Public Broadcast Service (PBS) in 2010.  
 
“We are making a 90 minute documentary about Hamilton for PBS and as part of the documentary we want to talk about his formative years in Nevis. It was here the first years of his life that he became educated that the foundations of his brilliant career were laid and we are looking to find a way to put that in a documentary. So we are here exploring the island, looking for scenes that would reveal what Hamilton’s life in Nevis was like. It will be filmed next year and maybe shown the year after.

St. Kitts – Nevis CARIFTA Performance Boosts National Pride

The quality of the performances by local athletes and event organisers for the recently completed CARIFTA Games has added significantly to our Nation’s pride.

So said several spectators in reflecting on last weekend’s event. Mr. Ian Nisbett, a local taxi driver told SKNIS that all Kittitians and Nevisians should be proud of the positive feedback which had been received from visiting athletes and patrons.

The Honourable Richard Skerritt, Minister of State for Tourism, Sports and Culture, said the new Silver Jubilee Athletic Stadium received high accolades from sporting officials in the highest levels of regional track and field.

He added that the success of the competition was the result of the collective efforts of a wide mix of individuals, organisations and institutions that came together to help make the 2008 CARIFTA Games the biggest and most exciting in its 37 year history.

Nevis Sports Minister Speaks Out on Sports Agenda

Minister of Sports in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) the Hon. Hensley Daniel said athletes represented the regions greatest hope for the future of the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) games. He called on sports agencies across the Caribbean to pay special attention to the athletes in their localities to ensure even better performances in future games.
 
Mr. Daniel made the statement while he welcomed delegates for the 37th Congress of CARIFTA games on Sunday March 23rd at the Four Seasons Resort.
 
“I am particularly asking that we use this opportunity in that context to ensure that the St Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) which is based in St. Kitts and the Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (NAAA) which is based in Nevis find creative ways of ensuring that both athletes on both sides of the Narrows ensure tremendous success.
 
“And as such we want to ensure that our engagement with North American and Caribbean Associations Council (NACAC) and all the other agencies pay some attention to our athletes in their locality so that in the next CARIFTA and succeeding CARIFTA events we will have more athletes and we will be able to see a greater display of performance,” he said.
