“The Organization of American States (OAS) has shown a special interest in the development of geothermal energy on Nevis,” said Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry at a Town Hall meeting held at the Brown Hill Community Centre Tuesday night.
OAS officials called Premier Parry Tuesday evening to discuss the interest that the organization has to sponsor a team of persons from Nevis and St. Kitts to travel to Washington to meet a number of agents who would like to see the geothermal energy project go forward.
The Federal Government has also expressed interest in the sale of geothermal energy to St. Kitts as soon as the alternative energy is ready for export from Nevis.
Minister of Communications and Public Utilities in the Nevis Island Administration, Hon. Carlisle Powell has been having continued talks with his counterpart in St. Kitts, Hon. Earl Asim Martin with regard to the sale of geothermal energy.
According to Premier Parry, development of Geothermal on Nevis is a stimulus project, which will bring numerous benefits to the island. Besides easing the cost of energy to the consumer, it will also result in great revenue to the treasury of Nevis.
