Director of Youth, Mr. Geoffrey Hanley says the Youth Empowerment through Skills (YES) project is historic and wants young people “make good use of the opportunity to light their world.
“Historic because seeing so many young people gather together indicates that there is hope for our young people and our Federation. Historic, because over 500 positive young people have decided to empower themselves through various technical skills. Historic, because after the training and attachments, lives will be changed. Historic because it is giving some of you, who society might have written off another chance to prove yourself,” said Mr. Hanley at the launching of the project.
“Young people I urge you to make good use of the opportunities that are been provided for you and SHINE. Use the YES programme to go and light you world,” said Mr. Hanley, who noted that there are so many benefits and technical skills that YES can offer.
“Training in an informal setting, certification based on competencies, enjoy significantly higher paying work after completion. It can save you some money. You can now do it yourself. Empower yourself. You can eventually be your own boss by starting your small business,” said the Director of Youth.
Mr. Hanley in urging the young people to remain focus and to stick to the task, gave some timely advice.
“Show up to work early and learn all that you can. Do not allow others to tell you, that you cannot do it. You Can Do It. You can make a positive difference in your community,” he said.
“As I look around I am seeing St. Kitts’ leading mechanics, air conditioning technicians, chefs, plumbers, designers”¦ you name I am seeing it. Young people can you see it,” said Hanley.
“Let’s PROMOTE the YES project and You would be Promoting yourself in this programme: You can achieve this by being: Proactive, Read as much as you can, Organize yourself, Motivate others in the programme, Opportunities will take advantage of, Tell others about the YES programme and Energize yourself to make a difference in your life and your community. Remember youth, your survival depends on a Skill,” concluded the Director of Youth.
