UVI President – Dr. David Hall at St. Kitts Airport
Basseterre, St. Kitts – Nevis
September 03, 2012 (SKNIS)
The visit to St. Kitts and Nevis by University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) President Dr. David Hall has been hailed his most fruitful thus far.
“I would even say that out of my last three years of being President at UVI, this has been the most productive trip I have made so far,” Dr. Hall revealed to the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service . “We had two full days of activity, we met with folks in the education arena and what has really been impressive is the number of students I have been able to meet with on St. Kitts and Nevis and they have strong interests in UVI. We had productive discussions on trying to expand our relationship with the Federation and I’m leaving very optimistic.”
The UVI President emphasized that discussions pointed to clear paths such as the development of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) that would be sent to the Federal Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Nevis Island Administration. He said the objective was to have this done by the end of October so that students going to UVI for the Spring semester next January, would reap its benefits. It was also noted that the MOU with the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College will be expanded while an initial one would have to be developed for the Sixth Form in Nevis.
UVI Alumni on both St. Kitts and Nevis had made an impression on Dr. Hall.
“I promised our alums on St. Kitts that I’d be back at least annually, so that’s a minimum amount, I think it may be even more frequent than that,” Dr. Hall noted. “We had a nice turn out on Nevis with our Alums, we had lunch with them ““ they were enthusiastic as well and so I know I need to come back and continue to support our Alums and get them to support us. At both sessions we mentioned our “50-50 Campaign,” where we’re trying to get 50 percent of our Alums to give during the 50th Anniversary, and people have been very responsive. I’m leaving with some contributions we have received and we hope to get some more.”
President Hall was accompanied on his trip by UVI Special Assistant to the President Dr. Haldane Davies and UVI Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs Linda Smith. Local coordinators included Alumnus and Chief Executive Officer of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) Jonathan Bass as well as Alumnus and St. Kitts and Nevis Trading and Development Corporation (TDC) personnel St. Clair Hodge.
Here the man is taking a holiday in Nevis, and I can barely afford to eat after rising tuition costs.
For shame!
