Nevis Reformation Party Stalwart Tessy Nisbett Passes

“To my knowledge, he was one of the founding members of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) in fact I remember in 1970 he took me to one of their meetings. He was passionate about politics. He was even more passionate about his love for Nevis. He was a local councillor for the St.Thomas Parish. He was a good man, he was a religious man; may his soul rest in peace”, said Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry, issuing a statement on the passing of Eustace Nisbett to the Nevis News Cast (NNC) on Tuesday, January 22, 2008.

Accolades and reminiscing on the life of the NRP stalwart and Nevisian icon, Mr. Eustace “Tessy” Nisbett, poured into Thursday night’s very popular radio program “Tell Me” on Choice FM.

Tessy, as he was known by all who knew him was born in 1945 in the village of Cotton Ground. He had been ailing for a number of years and the good Lord took him home on Monday night January 21, 2008.

Rawlins Addresses Federation’s UWI Graduates

Justice of Appeal of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court the Hon. Hugh Rawlins told graduates of the University of the West Indies (UWI) in St. Kitts – Nevis that they should continue to justify their existence in positive and meaningful ways.
 
The Nevis born Appeals Court Judge who was also a former student at the University, urged the students to impact the community meaningfully, during a ceremony for the recognition of UWI Graduates from St. Kitts and Nevis. The event was held at the Old Manor Hotel in Gingerland on January 19, 2008.
 
“The journey has just commenced and there are many more steps that you will take before your life’s end to justify your own existence”¦Your teachers obviously encouraged excellence and not mediocrity, in their endeavours which go a long way to justify their existence,” he said.

St. Kitts – Nevis Meets Agricultural Land Demand

Minister responsible for Agriculture Honourable Cedric Liburd has revealed that government continues to meet the increased demand for land on the part of former sugar workers.

During an interview with the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service he said that thus far over 100 former SSMC employees have received land for crop and animal production.  Minister Liburd said this was done with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organisation which provided just over $1 million.  He said due to the success of the project including the earnings of the farmers, other former sugar workers have requested land.  He said that some of the applications were reviewed at the Cabinet meeting last Monday.

Nevis Premier Outlines A Vision For Growth

Nevis Premier, the Hon. Joseph Parry delivered the Keynote address at the ninth annual luncheon of the Hearts and Hands for Nevis Inc. in New York on Sunday, January 20th at the elegant Crowne Plaza Hotel in Queens, New York.

Premier Parry began his speech by acknowledging the recent death of 18 year old Miss Valencia Robins of Jessups village. “On Friday evening I learnt of the sad death of Miss Robins, daughter of Claire Robins and Vaughn Anslyn and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Doras and Mr.  and Mrs. Arthur Anslyn. On behalf of the people of Nevis, I extend our heart felt condolences.”

Mr. Parry was invited by the non-profitable Nevisian organization to speak on the topic, “The Vision for Nevis”.

During his keynote address, Mr. Parry discussed establishing Nevis as a top Tourism destination in the Caribbean. “Niche Tourism has worked well in Nevis. We shall consolidate by establishing Nevis as the number one tourism destination in the Caribbean. Along with the Four Seasons Brand we shall establish another hotel with a reputation even more regarded than the Four Seasons. This will consolidate a position already recognized in the United States of America and would attract the more high-end players in the industry.”
