St. Kitts – Nevis Keeps Inflation Rate Low

The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis registered the second lowest rate of inflation for the last nine months of last year, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) is reporting.

According the Basseterre-based financial institution, the rate of inflation in the member countries of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU), ranged from 1.1 percent in Anguilla to 6.2 percent in St. Vincent and the Grenadines during the first nine months of 2007.

The rate of inflation in the ECCB member countries for the first nine months of 2007 is 1.1 percent in Anguilla; 2.5 percent in Antigua and Barbuda; 3.2 percent in Dominica; 5 percent in Grenada; 2.2 percent in Montserrat; 1.6 percent in St. Kitts and Nevis; 4.3 percent in St. Lucia and 6.2 percent in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Nevis To Offer Full Health Care To Island Residents

Minister of Health the Hon. Hensley Daniel said the Nevis Reformation Party led-Nevis Island Administration (NIA) had  been working assiduously to ensure that the people of Nevis received full medical and health services coverage.
 
Minister Daniel made the statement while he gave an update on the status of medical care on the island during a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly on Thursday February 28, 2008.
 
“There are presently eight doctors employed at the Alexandra Hospital and three at the District level plus the Medical Officer of Health.  We now employ 12 Medical Doctors and two Dentists and now we have complete 24 hour medical coverage at the Alexandra hospital,” he said.

Caribbean Neighbours Admire Nevis Island’s Geothermal Plan

Premier of Nevis, the Honourable Joseph Parry welcomed a United States Virgin Islands (U.S.V.I) and a Saba delegation to Nevis Wednesday to discuss the Nevis Geothermal energy plan and how the two islands could benefit.

The USVI delegation, led by Lt. Governor, Mr. Gregory Francis, included Nevisian born, Mr. Roosevelt David, former Senator in the USVI and Mr. Nathan Simmonds, Senior Policy Advisor, while the Saba delegation included Commissioner’s, Chris Johnson and Bruce Zagers.

During Premier Parry’s introductions of the cabinet, Lt. Governor Francis said he was very pleased to see such a young staff as part of the government.
