The St. Johns Festival dubbed the St. Johns Fest is fast approaching and Special Advisor to Culture Mr. Halstead Byron made an early appeal to residents of the St Johns community to take advantage and become involved in the Festival that is slated for the Easter weekend.
He said in order to accommodate everyone in the community, the festive activities would not be held in one permanent place but would spread throughout the St Johns community.
The festive activities would commence on March 21st, at the Flats in Cole Hill, with the traditional kite flying contest and Food Fair on Good Friday.
An organised cure for Cancer Walk is scheduled among activities for Saturday March 22nd. During the evening hours a Queen and Calypso show competition is planned for Bath Village.

St. Kitts – Nevis National Bank Earns EC$81m Profit In 2007

The indigenous St. Kitts – Nevis – Anguilla National Bank is reporting a net profit of EC$81 million in 2007 compared to EC$68 million in 2006.
Bank Chairman, Mr. Walford Gumbs in the Annual Report for 2007, released at the recent 37th Annual General Meeting, disclosed that total assets increased to EC$1,935,130,000 or 19.9 percent from EC$1,614,256,000 in 2006, while deposits grew from EC$1,141,913,000 in 2006 to EC$1,290,808,000 or 13 percent in 2007.
He said that the Bank’s loan portfolio increased by EC$132,886,000 or 15.7 percent to EC$979, 357,000 from EC$846,471,000 in 2006.
Mr. Gumbs said the achievements in the Bank’s operations during the year are extremely commendable as this performance surpassed budgetary estimates.

Premier of Nevis and Minister of Education in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) Hon. Joseph Parry and Mrs. Parry showed their support for team Nevis during the 2008 Leeward Islands Debating Competition which concluded in St. Kitts at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel and Casino in Bird Rock, St. Kitts on March 02, 2008.
At the end of the two day contest which brought together contestants from Antigua, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat and St. Maarten. Mr. Parry told the Department of Information that the NIA would continue to throw its support behind students and would make the necessary input to nurture and groom potential debaters who possessed good oratorical skills and demonstrated effective research prowess for future contests.
However, during Nevis’ short lived participation in the contest, Ms, Micaia Mills and Ms. Sachia Godet opposed the Moot “Vocational qualification is far more valuable than a university degree” against their opponent St. Maarten.
