Nevis Premier Reports To Nationals in Florida

Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry reported to Nevisian Nationals on the accomplishments of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) led Nevis Island Administration (NIA) at the Holiday Inn in Hollywood, Florida on Friday, March 14, 2008.

Mr. Parry said that the Florida meeting will take place at least once a year so that Nevisian Nationals and friends of Nevis living abroad can be abreast of the projects, programs and the way forward of the government and the island of Nevis.

Premier Parry’s report was accompanied by a collective and well organised power point presentation that contained text and pictures of the undertakings and progress of the NRP led NIA over the past year.

During his discourse on government’s development in Education, Mr. Parry discussed the new direction for Education.

He explained his Government’s move to allow teenage mothers the opportunity to return to school to continue their education and Rastafarian children to attend school without headwear. The Homework Assistance program’ he indicated, is on stream island- wide, with over 300 students participating in after school sessions.

Nevis Sports Minister Speaks Out on Sports Agenda

Minister of Sports in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) the Hon. Hensley Daniel said athletes represented the regions greatest hope for the future of the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) games. He called on sports agencies across the Caribbean to pay special attention to the athletes in their localities to ensure even better performances in future games.
 
Mr. Daniel made the statement while he welcomed delegates for the 37th Congress of CARIFTA games on Sunday March 23rd at the Four Seasons Resort.
 
“I am particularly asking that we use this opportunity in that context to ensure that the St Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) which is based in St. Kitts and the Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (NAAA) which is based in Nevis find creative ways of ensuring that both athletes on both sides of the Narrows ensure tremendous success.
 
“And as such we want to ensure that our engagement with North American and Caribbean Associations Council (NACAC) and all the other agencies pay some attention to our athletes in their locality so that in the next CARIFTA and succeeding CARIFTA events we will have more athletes and we will be able to see a greater display of performance,” he said.

Nevis Island Roads Safer Due To New Safety Markers

The Third Phase of the Island Main Road on Nevis is set to become the envy of neighbouring Caribbean Islands.  The newly constructed section of the main road that connects the Parishes of St James and St George’ respectively, had been so neglected under the former CCM Administration that in many areas it was deteriorated beyond repair. The old Tarmac road built over two decades was almost completely disintegrated in the Zion area.

After being elected to power through fair and democratic means in 2006, the NRP Administration in keeping with its commitment to build safer and more passable roads for the people of Nevis, immediately sought to rescue drivers from this section of the island main road that were considered to be hazardous and impassable.

The response of the NIA was remarkable in the sense that drivers on Nevis today have some of the most safer and passable roads to drive on compared to anywhere else in the region.

This was made possible after the NRP Administration had appropriately sought funds to modernize and complete the third phase of the island main road.  The expert Engineers behind this driving success was Surrey Paving & Aggregate Caribbean Ltd.

The new NIA proactive stance to give the island main road a new face-lift has not only improved the aesthetic of Nevis but the new and modernized road network that connects the Parishes of St. James to St. Georges’ respectively, has also help to shape the future of traffic safety on Nevis.

St. Kitts – Nevis Takes Track & Field To Next Level

The inauguration of the Silver Jubilee Athletic Stadium will allow track and field in St. Kitts and Nevis to sprint to a higher level.

This was declared by President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) Raphael Jenkins during the official opening ceremony on Wednesday. The Class 2 stadium is the home of the 37th Annual CARIFTA Games being held in St. Kitts on the Easter Weekend. President Jenkins praised the Minister of State of State for Sports, Honourable Richard Skerritt and the Government for fulfilling its pledge to provide a world-class home for track and field.

Outside Interest In Nevis’ Geothermal Plans

The buzz about the interest that has been shown in Nevis by other islands, strengthens the hand of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) and reaffirms the faith that the people of Nevis placed in the NRP Administration to look after the affairs of Nevis.   That was the view of the Junior Minister responsible for Communications, Works and Public Utilities on Nevis Hon. Carlisle Powell during a recent interview with the Department of Information.

Mr. Powell indicated that the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) Saba and Anguilla had showed interest in securing a deal with West Indies Power Nevis Limited (WIP) to purchase power from Nevis when it’s found and harnessed.

He indicated that in light of the mounting interest in the island’s natural resources and the many accolades registered by government officials from neighbouring islands was evidence of the trust placed in the Administration’ vision.
