Charlestown, Nevis
July 29, 2008

The Nevis Community Choral Club, also known as the Nevis Community Choir, will be travelling to Canada on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 on a two-week long 25th Anniversary Tour. The 25 member non denominational group will participate in a number of social and sightseeing activities in Canada and will perform two concerts, sing at two senior citizens homes and perform at a worship service at the Mississauga Seventh Day Adventist Church.  “We felt that attaining 25 years of continuous service is a great achievement and, as such, determined that it’s time our choir extended its voice beyond the boundaries of St. Kitts & Nevis,” says Elmo Liburd, president of the Club.  The group will be guests of the St. Kitts & Nevis Choral Group of Canada based in Toronto.

The choir began in 1983 in preparation for the Independence Day celebration of St. Kitts & Nevis on September 19, 1983. It is one of the few organizations on Nevis that can boast such longevity. Through singing, the choir has brought joy to the hearts of thousands of Nevisians and visitors year after year performing a blend of Religious, Classical, Secular and Spiritual music. In addition to this, the choir also participates in weekly church services and other official functions. Some of the monies raised by the choir have been donated to the community and include:

Nevis Premier Throws Swicth For New Water Well

Premier Parry Turns On New Water Well

Premier Parry Turns On New  Nevis Water Well

Charlestown, Nevis
July 25, 2008

Relief came for the residents in St. Johns and St. Georges when another high yielding water well which added 432,000 gallons of water to the island’s water system, was commissioned at Fothergills in Gingerland. The event took place on July 25, 2008, when Premier of Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry flipped the lever to begin pumping the “new water”. He said the well represented another promise fulfilled by his Nevis Reformation Party led Nevis Island Administration.

“It was my personal determination to beat this dry weather before Culturama. When Nevisians come home they must have the same comfort that they have abroad and I am pleased to see that we have been successful and we are here to turn on this pump in the Fothergills area today. I will say this, the government has promised and the government has delivered and has been delivering for the past two years and we will continue to do so.

“We have not built the pump house yet but you will see some other pieces of construction taking place but the most important thing is to get water into the pipes and to make the people of Nevis comfortable and that is exactly what we are doing and in the famous words ““ better has come for the people of Nevis,” he said.

The Premier added that some weeks ago when the first new well was commissioned at Maddens, it was said that there was enough water for all the people of Nevis but the difficulty was to get the water from St. James to Gingerland or parts of St. Johns. Therefore, the Nevis Water Department continued to ration the water supply to those areas.

Notwithstanding, Mr. Parry said both new wells which had been developed by Bedrock Exploration and Development Technologies (BEAD), under the leadership of Geologist Dr. Ronald Hoag supplied an added 1 million gallons of water daily.

The Nevis Island Administration led by the Nevis Reformation Party, ended their Second year anniversary week of celebration with a service of Prayer and Thanksgiving at the St. Thomas’ Anglican Church on Sunday, July 13th 2008.

The afternoon service began with a procession of Clergy, Government officials and NRP executives.

Pastor Davidson Morton of the Eden Brown Church of God invoked God’s blessings on the service, while Father Alric Francis of the St. Thomas’ Anglican Church presided over the ceremony. The National Anthem was rendered beautifully on steel pan by Miss Miche’la Parris; and Pastor Sandra Flemming, of the Newcastle Wesleyan Holiness Church, offered welcome remarks and chaired the afternoon’s proceedings.

The congregation set the pace for an afternoon of thanksgiving and spiritual upliftment with its lusty singing of the first hymn, “Lead Us, Heavenly Father, Lead Us”.

Scripture readings were done by two members of the Nevis Island Administration– Junior Minister, the Hon. Carlisle Powell and Legal Adviser, Hon. Patrice Nisbett, while songs of encouragement and inspiration were performed by Kurvin Wallace and Sam Corbin.  Not to be out done, the Clifton Methodist Men’s Fellowship kept the congregation clapping and tapping, with a medley of gospel tunes.  The sharing of peace, where Cabinet members got the opportunity to greet members of the congregation, was offered through the sweet sounds of the Humming Bird String Band.

Federal Minister with responsibility for Housing, Agriculture, Fisheries and Co-operatives Hon. Cedric Liburd, added to the praise showered on the Nevis Island Administration for its decision to explore the island’s geothermal resources, while he was on an official visit to Nevis on July 11, 2008.

The Minister, who was hosted by Hon Robelto Hector, got a first hand view of the ongoing geothermal explorations at Spring Hill and upper Jessups and registered his satisfaction with the project’s progress.

“I want to commend the NIA the government of Nevis for the work that is being done and I do hope that this project will now help us to combat the serious oil prices that we have in the world and more so that is affecting the small island states like St. Kitts and Nevis. I believe that this is what we need to do in order to challenge the people who own the oil and who are really causing serious problems throughout the world and therefore I want to commend the NIA and I am looking forward for the implementation of this project.

“I visited both sites for the geothermal and the work that is going on and I am really impressed and I am advised that the way things are going here that we can definitely see some movement and some completion and some way where St. Kitts and Nevis could be using geothermal during the year 2009 and I am really pleased with what is happening,” he said.
