Nevis History Book Published By Single Parent

Ms. Jean Caines a single parent of St. Pauls Parish is Nevis’ newest author. She launched her first publication “Let’s look Back”¦A Diary About Nevis and Nevisians”, earlier this week at the Bath Hotel. The book chronicles life on the island through accounts of Nevisians both past and present.

Area Representative and personal friend Hon. Robelto Hector applauded Ms. Caines for her tenacity and hard work and said her achievement could serve as a resourceful piece of literature about Nevis.

“I am seeing what a helpful tool your book could be in our schools and more so to the wider community. It was very thoughtful of you to think of compiling such pertinent information,” he said.

Meantime, Ms. Caines said the thought to write the book came in late August 2005 after she tried to recall the names of her school teachers and couldn’t and phone calls to fellow students proved futile.

There were no Independence Baby 2008, but three days earlier National Heroes Day (September 16th), five boys and one girl were born at the Maternity Ward at the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, who went to the hospital following the Ceremonial Parade at the Football Stadium at Warner Park, was disappointed there was no Independence Baby when he visited and had hoped that by the end of the day there would have been at least one.

Dr. Douglas, who was greeted and escorted by Assistant Nurse Manager, Sis. Janet Williams, used the opportunity to congratulate five of the new mothers who had given birth on National Heroes Day and were still hospitalised.

They were Anita Charles of Back Street, Mansion who gave birth to 10 lb 6ozs, Jaden Athion Kiko Charles; Icilma Isaac of Stapleton Village and her baby 7lb. 12 ozs Javin Maliq Isaac; Francisca George Figueroa of Pitcairn Street, who named her baby boy, Larry Jensey Figueroa, who weighed 7 pounds 10 ozs; Bibishamshab Rahaman of Haynes Smith Village, whose 7 lb 4 ozs son is named Kenshin Slack; Melissa Hughes of Lodge, whose 7 lb 8 ozs little girl is named Shenique Hadara Arianna Hughes and Uretta Williams of Cistern Hill, St. Peter’s whose 10 lb 8 ozs bouncing baby boy is named Dominic Damion Isaiah Caleb.
