Nevis Premier Outlines A Vision For Growth

Nevis Premier, the Hon. Joseph Parry delivered the Keynote address at the ninth annual luncheon of the Hearts and Hands for Nevis Inc. in New York on Sunday, January 20th at the elegant Crowne Plaza Hotel in Queens, New York.

Premier Parry began his speech by acknowledging the recent death of 18 year old Miss Valencia Robins of Jessups village. “On Friday evening I learnt of the sad death of Miss Robins, daughter of Claire Robins and Vaughn Anslyn and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Doras and Mr.  and Mrs. Arthur Anslyn. On behalf of the people of Nevis, I extend our heart felt condolences.”

Mr. Parry was invited by the non-profitable Nevisian organization to speak on the topic, “The Vision for Nevis”.

During his keynote address, Mr. Parry discussed establishing Nevis as a top Tourism destination in the Caribbean. “Niche Tourism has worked well in Nevis. We shall consolidate by establishing Nevis as the number one tourism destination in the Caribbean. Along with the Four Seasons Brand we shall establish another hotel with a reputation even more regarded than the Four Seasons. This will consolidate a position already recognized in the United States of America and would attract the more high-end players in the industry.”

St. Kitts – Nevis Delegation To Visit Taiwan

St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China on Taiwan are expected to further consolidate their friendly relations when the Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas pays an Official Visit to Taipei next week.

Prime Minister Douglas is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris; Minister of Housing, Agriculture and Fisheries. Hon. Cedric Liburd; Chief Secretary, Mr. Joseph Edmeade; Financial Secretary, Mrs. Janet Harris and Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Erasmus Williams.

The Official Visit begins on Sunday 27th January with the arrival of the delegation at the Taoyuan International Airport.

St. Kitts – Nevis Citizens Benefit From Housing Improvements

The first home of an expansion project for the NEMA starter homes has been completed in record time: Four weeks to be exact.

Originally built to alleviate problems faced by super low income families whose homes were destroyed during the passage of Hurricane Georges in 1998, the homes were deemed a temporary solution to those in need of such assistance.

According to officials at a gathering to mark the occasion, it was never intended to be a longterm solution, as many of the owners had growing families.

Minister of Housing Hon. Cedric Liburd affectionately known as the “Action Minister” said his ministry would continue to ensure that the housing needs of the people of the Federation were met, regardless of their income bracket, maintaining Government’s positive track record.

St. Kitts – Nevis To Host Petro Caribe Summit

St. Kitts and Nevis has been invited to host the Fifth Petro Caribe Summit in June this year.

This is according to Minister of Public Utilities, Transport and Posts Honourable Earl Asim Martin, who was addressing the media during his first press conference for 2008.

He elaborated that there have already been two Petro Caribe Summits in Venezuela, one in Jamaica and one in Cuba.  The Minister further noted that in his experience the summits are elaborate affairs with heads of government attend with large delegations.  He speculated that His Excellency Hugo Chavez should be among the Presidents in attendance.  It was revealed that the first committee meeting to plan the event will be held January 23, 2008.
