Nevis Premier To Visit North America

Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry, will be bringing the Independence Spirit from the Federation to North America, as he participates in the 25th anniversary of St.Kitts – Nevis Independence with Nationals in Florida and Toronto this weekend.

The Premier, who leaves the island on Thursday, Sept. 11th was invited by the St.Kitts and Nevis Association of Florida (SNAF) to attend their Annual Independence Dinner and Ball on Saturday, Sept. 13th at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Hialeah, Florida.

According to SNAF chairperson, Troy Rawlins,  the non-profit organization seeks to  do the following: (1.).Strengthen the St.Kitts and Nevis community in Florida, (2.) Establish cooperative partnerships with other groups and communities within the state, (3.) Further develop the international awareness of the two-island Federation through programs that focus or health care, education, sports, entertainment and culture.

Olympians Meritzea Williams and Virgil Hodge were commended for their proud representation of St. Kitts and Nevis while being welcomed home by senior Government and athletic officials, friends and family.

The duo arrived on Tuesday evening after debuting at the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in China. Veteran Olympians Tiandra Ponteen and Kim Collins, who also went to Beijing, had other duties which prevented their immediate return.

Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor, Minister of State for Sports Hon. Richard Skerritt, Vice President of the local Olympic committee Dennis “Freddie” Knight and President of the athletic association Raphael Jenkins were among the welcoming party that assembled in the VIP room at the R.L.B. International Airport.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the team captured the Silver Jubilee anniversary spirit.

Washington DC To Host Week 25th Independence Anniversary Celebration

Art works by nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis will be on display in The Gallery at the Organisation of American States (OAS), a reception hosted by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and a dialogue on “Positioning St. Kitts and Nevis for Competitiveness over the past 25 years ““ The role of the Disapora” are among activities organised to celebrate the Silver Jubilee Independence Celebrations in Washington, D.C. next month.

St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Dr. Izben C. Williams said the activities will be held over the period September 2nd to 7th 2008.

He told the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister (CUOPM) that nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis from across the United States will travel from their respective domiciles and converge on the U.S. capital, Washington DC, that weekend to celebrate the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of Independence.

“The celebratory activities are being organised by the Embassy in Washington in collaboration with the Associations of St. Kitts and Nevis Nationals throughout the United States.  Associations of St. Kitts and Nevis Nationals are known to exist in Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Texas, Washington DC-Virginia-Maryland, New York, New Jersey and Boston, and our nationals are to be found in many other States in smaller numbers,” said Ambassador Williams.
