St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in a message Tuesday to the new President of the United States of America, the Hon. Barack Obama said his “inauguration as the 44th President of the United States of America epitomizes the importance, the power, and, indeed, the audacity of hope.”

“Keenly aware of the historic significance of this moment, the Government and people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis extend heartfelt congratulations, and pray for God’s blessings and guidance in all that you may do,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

Earlier the St. Kitts and Nevis leader appearing on his weekly programme, Ask the Prime Minister,” said the people of St. Kitts and Nevis will be among the billions of people from every corner of the globe who are captivated by the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States of America.

“The world is fixated in ways that are different from the way that they are usually drawn to, say, the world cup”¦..or some global entertainment extravaganza.  From Paris to Port-of Spain, and from Tokyo to Tunis, people are drawn to this phenomenon because of what it says about the power of the human spirit”¦.the ability of human-beings to chart their own destiny”¦”¦the possibility of mankind to overcome tremendous, stupendous, even frightening odds,” said Dr. Douglas.

He said that the Caribbean, like President Barack Obama, “have the blood of Africa flowing through our veins, we take a special pride in what this black man, against all odds, has achieved in the most powerful nation on earth.”

“And out of this pride must come, I hope, a renewed commitment to take up the tasks that are before us, and the challenges that are uniquely ours, with as much dedication and determination and dignity as the man who captivates the world today has always handled the tasks, and met the challenges, that have been placed before him,” said the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
