St. Kitts – Nevis’ Youth Month 2015 is celebrated during November under the theme “Give Youth a Voice and Inspire Greatness.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, Sport and Culture, the Honourable Shawn K. Richards, on Sunday, November 1, declared open the month of activities in celebration of youth in an address to the nation where he highlighted the many good aspects of youth.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that it is his goal to facilitate the continued development of the young people in St. Kitts and Nevis. Highlighting that his ministerial portfolio  provides him with the unique opportunity of achieving this goal, Minister Richards said’ “I find myself uniquely positioned to lead in the nurturing of a culture of youth empowerment, capacity building and healthy lifestyles; in so doing building and shaping our Federation’s greatest asset of today, and leaders of today and tomorrow, our youth.”

Minister Richards shares the view that, “young people are gifted with unique perspectives, energy, spirits of innovation, and other natural attributes that must be realized as essential elements of positive societal change.”

He noted that it is necessary to provide the correct environment to ensure that young people are empowered to achieve “greatness.”

Many activities will be held during November in observance of Youth Month 2015. These activities include a Teen Cyber Bullying Workshop at the Beach Allen primary school and Verchild’s High school, a Career Path Workshop at the Tyrell Williams and Sandy Point Primary Schools, The Renaissance Fashion Show 2015 and a Round Table Discussion on the National Youth Policy.

Minister Richards  in a word of encouragement said, “I wish the young people every success as you continue to celebrate youth month 2015 and invite all to participate fully in the planned activities.”
