Senior Minister and Minister of Trade Honourable Dr. Timothy Harris has called on the diasporic community to play a greater role in the development and uplifting of their homeland.
Minister Harris cited the recent Taiwan Trade Show, which featured products from Taiwanese companies based in Miami, Florida, U.S.A. as a practical example, and urged expatriates to explore ways in which they can contribute to St. Kitts and Nevis via investments, trading and other areas.
“If we can have our diasporic community “¦ play the role of distributors for a lot of our products, whether it is our rum, our crafts or whatever we have, then it would be extremely beneficial for local interests,” he stated.
The Senior Minister also mentioned local music as an area that can be easily tapped given its universal appeal. “It is critically important that the love for things Kittitian and Nevisian are being preserved in those jurisdictions over yonder and that our people provide a necessary marketing impetus for them,” he stressed.
Additionally, Minister Harris suggested that those with businesses overseas could source products and services to be used locally.
“They will come with a Kittitian and Nevisian brand name which will promote St. Kitts and Nevis internationally and have spin-offs in the tourism and economic sectors that will redound to the benefit of all nationals,” he emphasized.
Persons and businesses wishing to explore possibilities are encouraged to contact the St. Kitts Investment Promotion Agency (SKIPA) at 465-1153 or the National Entrepreneurial Development Division (NEDD) at 467-1634/1635.
