The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) is reporting a 150 percent increase in cruise passengers in May this year compared to the same month last year.
Figures obtained from SCASPA’s Department of Finance and Statistics indicate that 15,217 cruise passengers visited St. Kitts in May 2009 compared to 5,217 cruise passengers in 2008, an increase of 154 percent.
“This of course is due to the hard work of the officials in the Ministry of Tourism, the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority, the shipping agents, other stakeholders including taxi drivers, craft vendors, tour operators and service providers,” commented Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism.
Carnival Victory visits St. Kitts weekly docking at Port Zante every Saturday.
“Minister of State for Tourism, Sen. the Hon. Richard Skerritt will continue to work closely with the cruise lines to attract more ships to St. Kitts during the off-season, so that all stakeholders, especially our taxi operators and vendors can benefit,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
I can definitely see all of the “UPSCALE” tourists in this photo. Tatoos, hats on backwards, using US Dollars instead of EC Dollars. Yep…St. Kitts…the Next Bahamas.
