The Cunningham Housing Development is to be extended and a new residential development plan for Lodge has been approved.
These were among the decisions taken on Monday at the routine meeting of the Federal Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
Cabinet gave the approval following the recommendation of a joint meeting of the Ministry of Housing and Agriculture, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, and the National Housing Corporation.
Cabinet approved for lots identified in various locations around the island of St. Kitts to be used for the construction of 500 homes, and for the distribution of land for residential purposes under the Special Land Distribution Initiative (SLDI).
Other sites identified and approved so far are Taylors, Pine Gardens, Buckleys, Garveys, Old Road, Verchilds, Sandy Point, St. Paul’s Parsons Dieppe Bay, Saddlers, Tabernacle, Mansion, Molineux, Phillips, Cabbage Tree in Cayon, and Stapleton Village Extension.
As a result of the increasing demand by nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis for residential lots, Cabinet approved a new residential development plan for Lodge as part of the Special Land Distribution Initiative.
The 11.2 acre new development is adjacent to the existing Lodge Extension NHC Housing Development and will accommodate about 90 lots ranging in sizes from 4,000 square feet to 6,000 square feet.
Cabinet also approved the immediate distribution of these lots to applicants whose requests have been pending for some time.
Similar residential development expansions have also been approved for Stapleton Garden, Keys Village and Stonefort, and pending land applications for those areas will shortly be fulfilled.
