Female and Junior League’s Tip Off In 2 Weeks
Basseterre, St.Kitts – Nevis
March 12th 2009
The newly elected SKABA basketball executive met on Wednsday evening at Basketball to discuss and finalise plans for the upcoming 2009 Basketball season.
Matters discussed included the start of the 2009 season which was set and finalized at March 28th for the female and the Junior divisions and 3 weeks later on April 19th with the official opening and the start of the Premeir and “A” Divisions.
The Junior division age limit remains the same at 19 and under which means that no one attaining the age of 20 during the year of the season will be allowed to play in the Junior division.
The Executive also indicated that referees/coaches clinic which will be held prior to the official start of the league. The clinics will be mandatory for all persons who are interested in coaching teams for the 2009 season. According to an official of the association this will be a keenly monitored aspect of the preparations leading up to the start of the league as it is felt that every coach should be at least SKABA certified in order to ensure a league of a very high standard. Strict dress codes will also be introduced the official stated.
The 2009 season is expected to be full of much interest as Hitters will be trying hard to stave off the exciting Ghetto Roots who they defeated in last years finals, as well as St.Pauls Tuff Knots who have made a change in their coaching staff with St.Clair Buchanan taking over from Dave Connor as Head Coach. Trotters are back in the premier division after spending a year in the “A” and they too are expected to be contenders as well to dethrone the mighty hitters. Cotton Ground is always the dark horse and 2009 may very well be the breakthrough year for the young athletic team.
The “A” division is relatively wide open. However recently relegated Blue Devils will more than likely be featured in the top 3. The Sandy Point Fruta Flacons and the Lady Blue Devils are expected to once again be very dominant in their respective Junior and Female divisions.
