Commonwealth Youth Forum 7 In Trinidad and Tobago
Basseterre, St. Kitts – Nevis
November 19, 2009 (SKNIS)
Tavo Sargeant and Chereca Weaver will join with youth from around the world in developing strategies to address the global economic crisis, climate change, violence and peace building.
The young people will represent St. Kitts and Nevis at the 7th Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF 7) slated for November 21 to 27 in Trinidad and Tobago. Participants from member states will deliberate under the theme “Invest in Youth, Sustain the World.”
“I’m excited by the prospect of contributing to this process,” Ms. Weaver told SKNIS. “The Commonwealth Youth Forum promotes networking and a healthy exchange of ideas. It has been a platform for launching debate at the Heads Meeting, so I am eager to get to work.”
Ms. Weaver is attending the CYF for the first time while Mr. Sargeant returns in his capacity as the Commonwealth Youth Caucus Representative.
CYF 7 will empower young people through a dynamic mix of educational and skill building activities in media advocacy, innovative fundraising, community networking, political face-to-face lobbying and information and communication technology training.
A Communiqué will be issued at the end of the forum. Participants will be able to implement elements of the Communiqué in their home countries through their action plans.
The Commonwealth Youth Forum has earned a reputation as being one of the most important meetings preceding the November 27-29 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). This year’s CHOGM is also being held in the twin-island Republic under the theme “Partnering for a more Equitable and Sustainable Future.”
