A report highlighting a number of recommendations for immediate action to help stem electricity outages on St. Kitts, has been submitted to Cabinet.
The Report was requested by the Minister responsible for Electricity, Dr. the Hon. Earl Asim Martin within one week.
The comprehensive report documents the technical, human resource and operational issues at the department.
In discussing the report with the Cabinet, Dr. Martin outlined the medium-term and longer-term plans which had been pre-existing but highlighted recommendations for immediate action to help stem system electricity outages.
Among the recommendations by the Management Team is the need to monitor workers activities and to take quick disciplinary action when necessary.
The completion of the installation of modern system protection equipment was also highlighted as a critical component of the short-term response. Cabinet was assured that upon the completion of this installation, system reliability should increase.
Cabinet commended the Department Heads for the swift response and for compiling a report that was highly detailed and solutions-oriented. A recommendations implementation sub-committee of the Cabinet has been established to work under the leadership of Dr. Martin.
