Hurricane Omar forced officials of the Nevis Tourism Authority (NTA) to postpone the activities for the 2008 Nevis International Culinary Heritage Exposition (NICHE). The event was scheduled for October 17-19.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mrs. Garcia Thompson-Hendrickson told the Department of Information on October 15, that the weekend event was put on hold due to the inclement weather and a Hurricane Warning which was in effect for Puerto Rico and St. Kitts and Nevis, two days ahead of the scheduled event.
“NICHE has been postponed until further notice. As you would appreciate, most of the events for NICHE were [planned] for outdoors and it simply would not be feasible to continue with the event at this time,” she said.
Mrs. Thompson-Hendrickson gave the assurance that the public would be advised of the new dates for NICHE once they were determined.
NICHE which is in its fourth year, features cooking demonstrations and gourmet meals by international and Caribbean chefs with Caribbean produce; wine, cheese and rum tastings and a beach party. Over the years, the international exposition has become a key event on the calendar of the NTA.
Notwithstanding, the CEO used the opportunity on behalf of the NTA to offer prayers to the persons who would be affected by the passage of Hurricane Omar including those on Puerto Rico and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. She also asked for them God’s protection and favour during the storm.
