CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (October 09, 2006)
A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) visited Nevis on Monday and held discussions for the first time with the recently installed Nevis Island Administration. The visit formed part of the funding institution’s annual visit to St. Kitts and Nevis and other member states.
Following the meeting which was held at the Cabinet Room of the Nevis Island Administration in Bath Plains, Premier and Minister of Finance the Honourable Joseph Parry told the Government Information Service during a brief interview that the meeting was cordial and positive and he outlined a number of areas discussed.

Education Minister Delivers Message On World Teachers Day

Nevis’ Premier and Minister of Education, the Hon Joseph Parry on Thursday 5th pledged the Administration’s commitment in transforming the education system on the island.
“As Premier of Nevis and Minister of Education, I embrace World Teachers’ Day and pledge my support for the teaching fraternity,” he said in a televised address to all teachers on Nevis. “My government will make available the necessary financial and human resources to ensure that teachers are equipped to deliver the services they are committed to do.
Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority Hires New General Manager

The Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority (NASPA) has announced the appointment of Mr. Spencer Hanley as the new General Manager of the Authority effective October 1, 2006.
Chairman of NASPA, Mr. Laurie Lawrence who made the announcement on Monday 2, expressed that the Authority was pleased to fill the void and that Mr. Hanley brought a wealth of experience to the position.

The Caribbean needs to begin playing close attention to the implications of the larger and most luxurious cruise ships that are being place into service.
“If we think about Royal Caribbean’s “˜Freedom of the Seas,’ which was launched earlier this year; it is 160,000 tons with a capacity for 4,300 plus passengers, but that is already stunted by Royal Caribbean’s “˜Genesis’ project which speaks to a tonnage in excess of 220,000 tons and 6,000 plus passengers,” said Chief Executive Officer of local shipping agents, Delisle Walwyn & Co., Mr. Denzil V.
