Minister of Agriculture in Nevis the Hon. Robelto Hector, welcomed the formation of Nevis’ only agro processing cooperative on Wednesday October 25, 2006, and urged the group to assist the Ministry to promote the view that agriculture and agro processing was not about helping poor farmers but was a sector of the island’s economy that contributed to food security.

St. Kitts and Nevis‘ Ambassador to the United States of America, His Excellency Dr. Izben C. Williams was among East Caribbean diplomats who were present at the recent swearing-in of newly-appointed US Ambassador to the Eastern Caribbean, Her Excellency Mrs. Mary Ourisman.

Ambassador Ourisman’s nomination received by the United State Senate on 21 July and was confirmed on 13 September. She is due to take up her appointment in Bridgetown, Barbados later this month.

Ricky Skerritt Elected Fourth Vice President Of CTO

St. Kitts and Nevis Minister of State for Tourism, Sports and Culture, Sen. The Hon. Richard Skerritt, has been elected Third Vice President of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO).

Minister Skerritt was appointed to the Cabinet of St. Kitts and Nevis in October 2004. His election to the CTO Board took place at the 46th meeting of the CTO Board of Directors now taking place in the Bahamas.

Nevis Department Of Agriculture Plans To Recapture Market

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (October 16, 2006)
Director of Agriculture in Nevis Dr. Kelvin Daly announced on Monday, that the Department of Agriculture on Nevis had declared war on complacency and had intended to recapture the lost production of locally produced food crops and dairy produce. He said the Department had received a new mandate and it was the Department’s intension to also diversify into non traditional crops including cashews and almonds.
