St. Kitts – Nevis Prime Minister Appeals To Youths

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Nevis

A call by St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in his Christmas Message for a return to the days when each member in the society cared for and tolerant and respectful of one another and for the youths to shun negative influences.

” I urge that we reach back to the days when there were far sharper lines between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour”¦.when respect for self and respect for others was the order of the day”¦”¦.when rules and regulations played far more important roles in our consciousness”¦”¦..when we understood that there was behavior that was public and there was behaviour that was private”¦.when the behavior of every child was the concern of every adult”¦. when parents and grandparents and neighbours and strangers constantly talked to children about right and wrong”¦.when children went to Sunday school and adults were in the Sunday schools teaching”¦. guiding”¦.shaping the children – and therefore the nation,” said Prime Minister Douglas in this year’s Christmas message to the twin-island Federation.

The St. Kitts and Nevis leader made a special appeal to the church community to ensure that their services capture the appeal of young people and lead them back to Sunday school and to leading youth services so that they may lead exemplary, wholesome and productive lives.

Nevis Premier’s Christmas Message 2007

Charlestown, Nevis
December 25, 2007

Fellow Nevisians at home and abroad, residents and friends of Nevis, I extend to you warm greetings for the Christmas season.

As we celebrate this Christmas season, we must remember to be thankful to God Almighty for sparing the country from Natural disasters in 2007 and thus we can enjoy another Christmas in true Nevisian style.  Even as we do so, we need to pause and reflect that things could have been very different in light of the recent earthquake which shook the island.  Therefore as we celebrate let us remember those persons living in countries which have been hit by disasters- natural or manmade.

We remember too those who have lost loved ones during this year and pray that God’s peace and comfort would help them through this Christmas season.

Christmas is a special time of the year for all of us. For children it is the receiving of gifts; the surprise and enjoyment they feel when they open their gifts or receive money or other presents from loved ones and family.  For those who are no longer children, in some ways when we too receive and share, we generally reminisce about the Christmas of past, the joy, excitement and pleasure that we too once shared at Christmas time.
