Charlestown, Nevis
February 14, 2008
Deputy Premier of Nevis and Minister of Sports, Hon. Hensley Daniel will be in Antigua to show support to the Nevis Island Pro Team once again, as they rally against Jamaica at the Stanford 20/20 Cricket match on Saturday, February 16th, 2008.
Accompanying the Deputy Premier will be Junior Minister in the Nevis Island Administration, Hon. Carlisle Powell. The Premier has long felt that we should be honouring our Nevisian heroes who have also been our ambassadors for the island of Nevis, at the same time showcasing Nevis’ cricketing history throughout the Caribbean and the rest of the world.
The Premier has invited the following former test players to accompany the Minister of Sports to show support for the Nevis Team: Elquemedo Willett, Keith Arthurton, Carly Tuckett and one of our greatest Cricketing heroes from Nevis, Mr. Livingston Sargeant.
The coach for the team is Mr. Stuart Williams and manager will be Mr. Derek Parry, both former West Indies Cricket players, while current West Indies player Mr. Runako Morton will compliment the batting order. This would put all six international test players at the same venue outside of Nevis in a special occasion to support the Nevis 20/20 team.
Another ambassador, Culturama Queen, Miss Shenicia Demming, representing Nevis’ biggest Cultural festival, will accompany the players to show support for the Nevis team.
The Premier of Nevis, Hon Joseph Parry, deserves every commendation for his great foresight in bringing these Nevisian cricket stars together, to remind the world of the great contribution that this tiny island of Nevis has made to Cricket in general.
The team will be chosen from a squad consisting of Joel Simmonds (Captain), Akito Willett, Carlon Smithen, Daynason Browne, Ian Byron, Jamoy Pemberton, Javier Liburd, Joseph Williams, Jurnell Turner, Kejell Tyson, Marvin Hamilton., Nelson Boland, Sherwin Woodley, Tonito Willett and Trevier Smithen.
