Reigning Road March Champions the sweetest band in the world, The Small Axe Band and the Caribbean’s new hot soca group, d’Vybz Band in addition to the up and coming young , talented Lights Out Band will all this year combine their musical skills to host what is no doubt the  most anticipated and largest event for the carnival season , the Night of Stars NewYear’s Eve Ball.

According to organisers, the spectacular gala evening is being dubbed, “Night of the Stars 2 “”¦”¦ “A Red Carpet Gala Affair”.  The gala event will feature two of the regions top DJs and radio personalities in “Magic Fingers” Ronnie Rascal and Leslie “Sugar Bowl Kid” Morton.

The setting for the grand gala event will be the stunningly beautiful and luxurious Bird Rock Beach Hotel’s Diana’s Terrace and will be staged on Sunday 31st December”¦Old Year’s Night, from 10:00PM.

St. Kitts – Nevis Now Employs 150 At Call Center

As a result of an agreement successfully negotiated by the Government, 150 young people are active and working at a Call Centre operating out of the structure once designated as Caribbean Star’s headquarters.

This was stressed by Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas during his December 11 Budget Address where he added that another 100 persons would be employed in the near future.

“I am really happy to see how many young people have found employment at the International Market Access-operated Call Centre. We have really benefited from the training,” exclaimed Regicia Thomas, one of the current employees.

Minister of State for Information the Honourable Nigel Carty was also pleased to report that the Government had reclaimed six of the 17 acres of land that were sold in 2003.

Banking Assets In St. Kitts – Nevis At EC$3.6 Billion

St. Kitts and Nevis‘ Commercial Banking Sector has grown into one of the major pillars that support the economic thrust of the twin-island Federation with total assets of EC$3.6 billion by August this year.

Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said the tremendous growth witnessed over the years under his tenure is a true reflection of the success of the programmes of his governing St. Kitts – Nevis Labour Party Administration for poverty reduction and wealth creation as well as the efforts of the citizens in achieving financial security.

Dr. Douglas disclosed that at the end of December 2006, assets held by the Commercial Banking Sector have grown to EC$3.2 billion, which represents a 10 percent increase over the amount of EC$2.9 billion at the end of last year.

Nevis Offshore Financial Services Garners $11 Million In Taxes

The Offshore Financial Services sector in Nevis continued to do well and Premier of Nevis and Minister with responsibility for Finance Hon. Joseph Parry, said the industry had  raked in $11million into the coffers of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) for 2007, as of November 28. It represented a nine percent increase for the corresponding period in 2006.
 
Mr. Parry brought the matter to light during his 2008 Budget Address presentation, under the theme “Moving to a higher level of progress ““ People Empowerment”, at a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly Chambers in Charlestown on Monday, December 17, 2007.
 
He explained that the industry was an important component in the Administration’s thrust for economic and social development and the sector contributed over 11 percent of the government’s revenue.
