New Health Plan For St. Kitts – Nevis

The new National Strategic Health Plan for the period 2008 to 2012 is owned by the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

This is according to Health Planner in the Ministry of Health Mr. Andrew Skerritt who enthused that the Ministry of Health is excited about the plan because in the deliberation phase there were widespread grass roots discussions that fed into national consultations.  As such, the National Strategic Health Plan belongs to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis who determined its composition.

Mr. Skerritt who discussed the plan with the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service said that it would soon be ready for public dissemination.  He said that Cabinet approved the strategic health plan on February 25 and it is now going through its final scripting and editing.  Presentation to the public should take place shortly.  He stated that while the plan is already public information, it is not presentation ready.

Federal & Nevis Island Admin. Meetings To Be Increased

Meetings of the Cabinets of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Nevis Island Administration are to be increased.

This was one of the decisions coming out of the recent joint meeting of the two Cabinets held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and the Royal Beach Casino, which also discussed crime, devolution of power, immigration and fiscal matters.

A communiqué issued said efforts aimed at improving relations between the Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration as well as between the people of St. Kitts and Nevis received a timely boost during the meeting.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Federal delegation was led by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and the Nevis Island Administration was headed by Premier the Hon. Joseph Parry.

Kudos For St. Kitts – Nevis Sports Tourism

The sporting facilities being constructed by the Ministry of Sports around the island will raise the chances of St. Kitts and Nevis being successful in the sports tourism sub-sector.

This is the firm belief of Donald Lockerbie, President of OLYMPVS INTERNATIONAL LLC – a worldwide sports facility and operations consulting firm, based in North Carolina (USA), Barbados and Switzerland.

Lockerbie, who served as Venue Development Director for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, is highly respected in international circles and is considered to be the pre-eminent planner of many of the United States’ most acclaimed football and track and field facilities.

He became familiar with St. Kitts and Nevis during his CWC duties, as the refurbished Warner Park served as the venue for first round matches for four teams including world champions Australia as well South Africa. Mr. Lockerbie visited Saint Kitts and Nevis last week and attended the opening of the 37th CARIFTA Games.

Nevis Welcomes History Making CARIFTA Games Medalist

Deputy Premier and Minister of Sports on Nevis Hon. Hensley Daniel was on hand at the Charlestown Pier to welcome the history making 37th CARIFTA Games silver medalist Ms. Maritza Williams of Ramsbury.
 
She returned to Nevis on March 25, 2008, two days after the top regional athletic meet concluded in St. Kitts, into the arms of her proud mother Ms. Lolita Williams.
 
“I have said it several times but congratulations and all the best from the Nevis Island Administration, the Premier and other Ministers of Government extend to you their very best wishes and we look forward to stepping up from silver to gold in the succeeded events. Thank you very much for making Nevis proud,” he said.
 
A happy Maritza decked in her blouse scripted “Mommy’s Girl” and her silver medals, told the Department of Information that her perseverance had paid off despite the difficulties.
