Letter from PAM about St. Kitts – Nevis Crime

April 21,2008

Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis
Office of the Prime Minister
Government Headquarters
Church Street, Basseterre
St. Kitts.

Dear Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas,

                Re: National Response on Crime

The surging crime rate is an urgent concern to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. On Friday 18th April 2008, our Nation was shocked and saddened by two murders on the same day, bringing the total number to eight murders for 2008.

Attention to this matter of crime, specifically at the level of increased youth violence, requires a national plan of action. The People’s Action Movement (PAM) is of the conviction that unity must form a critical feature of our national response.

In the circumstances, PAM sees this as a bipartisan issue. I therefore propose that the opposition and the Government can serve the people well with a unified approach to this increasingly escalating problem of crime.

I therefore request the opportunity to meet with you at your earliest convenience and propose immediate intervention. As a matter of national attention, all stakeholders should be convened at this meeting in order to formulate a collaborative response to ongoing crime in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Thank you for your urgent attention.

Sincerely,

“¦”¦”¦”¦”¦”¦”¦”¦”¦”¦..
Mr. Lindsay Grant
Leader of the Opposition,
People’s Action Movement (PAM)
