The Agency, which was launched by Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance in the NIA Hon. Joseph Parry, has responsibility for investment promotion, facilitation and aftercare services.  It would also advocate policy changes to enhance the investment climate on Nevis.

During his feature address, Premier Parry underscored the importance of the new agency and said that the NIA had demonstrated its confidence in the private sector, through its support for the agency which was private sector driven.

“We have subsumed the Marketing Division of the Financial Services Division into this organisation (NIPA). We believe it will strengthen its capacity to function and perform. This is a new venture for Nevis but new in the Caribbean. We look forward to positive results,” he said.

Mr. Parry described NIPA as a one stop facilitator to promote the island, to give after care and support for future expansion and to lobby government to continually make Nevis more user friendly.

“We believe that this NIPA shall achieve these objectives. We believe that in the next few years the Federation and Nevis in particular will no longer be regarded as a difficult place to do business,” he said.

The Premier said it was the intention of the Administration to equal or surpass any other jurisdiction in the world in due diligence regulations, supervision of regulations and the highest standards of conduct even as the island maintained its existing excellent record for good service.

He said too that the NIA anticipated every help and cooperation from the United States of America as it endeavoured to build an industry in Nevis’ efforts to be self reliant.

“This is very American and we anticipate your support, advice and even direction as we work as partners of however unequal,” he said.

Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry gave an address on Tuesday, May 20th at the opening ceremony of the medical clinic sponsored by the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) Mission in collaboration with Friend Ships, a charitable medical organization based in the United States.

“It was in 1984 that TBN came to the shores of Nevis.  Many things happened in that year when the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) brought TBN to the island of Nevis,” stated Premier Parry.  He indicated that TBN provided an additional service to the island by bringing the news, various issues and opinions to the people of Nevis. They also provided jobs and it made their mark in Nevisian society.

“The Society needs examples just like we need to reach out to the Caribbean and the rest of the World.  Young people have experienced the feeling of disillusionment and they feel cheated.  They are feeling a lack of attention from parents and teachers and they are crying out for role models and good examples in our society,” articulated Premier Parry.

The Friend Ships Super Clinics are here on Nevis to provide medical, eye and dental care, free of change from May 20- 24, 2008. Their advance team has set up the mission with government officials and church leaders.

The M.V Hopes, which houses Friend Ships, brought in several “Super Clinics”, which are 20 ft. shipping containers equipped as field clinics. They were moved into place along with large tents, seating, portable toilets and food preparation equipment.

Numerous doctors, nurses and dentists, trained and licensed in the United States, New Zealand and Australia, form part of the medical team. The ship also brought in a 206 Bell Jet Helicopter to support the operations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been advised by the British High Commission of changes regarding the logistical arrangements for issuing visas for the United Kingdom. These changes are part of a move to concentrate decision-making on visa applications in a number of hub posts around the world, to ensure quality and improve efficiency in the face of rising demands.

The Ministry has been advised that from 2nd June 2008, the British Consulate in New York will be responsible for making decisions regarding the issuance of visas. Applicants will continue to apply to the British High Commission in Barbados, which will in turn forward the relevant documents to the British Consulate in New York.

Online applicants will be required to pay for the Visa with an internationally recognized credit card at the time of completing the visa application form. Applicants will still be required to pre-book appointments. However, applicants must also make a personal appearance at the British High Commission in Barbados to submit documents and provide the necessary biometric data.

When the British Consulate in New York would have made a decision, which may be arrived at approximately three weeks, applicants will be alerted via email. Subsequently, the British High Commission in Barbados will notify the applicant that the documents are available for collection. Alternatively, the documents could be forwarded directly to the applicant (living outside of Barbados) by courier, a service which would have been paid for during the online application process.
