St. Kitts – Nevis Sports Tourism Grows Economy

The growth of the sports tourism sub-sector in St. Kitts and Nevis means increased opportunities for locals in the sporting and tourism related fields.

During an appearance on SKNIS’ radio magazine programme Perspectives, Director of Sports Dave Connor said that the recent success of the sub-sector is due in large part to the close collaboration between his Department and the St. Kitts Tourism Authority and the benefits are being felt by the man on the street.

He referred to the improvements to the infrastructure which were generated by the hosting of first round matches of the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup to support his statement. Connor added that persons have benefited from employment opportunities created by the renovation of sporting facilities in St. Pauls, Conaree, St. Peters, Cayon, McKnight and other areas.

Premier Congratulates Nevis 20/20 Cricket Team

The Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry congratulated the Nevis 20/20 Cricket team, coach Stuart Williams and manager Derek Parry for their performance against Jamaica last Saturday at the Stanford 20/20 Cricket tournament in Antigua. Mr. Parry commended the team Wednesday morning on Choice FM’s popular radio program, “Sports Rap” hosted by Malcolm George.

While on the program, Premier Parry also thanked the former test players: Elquemedo Willett, Keith Arthurton, Carly Tuckett, and two of our greatest Cricketing heroes from Nevis, Mr. Livingston Sargeant and Livingston Lawrence.

Nevis Hosts Diplomatic Week

On Wednesday February 20, 2008, the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) led by Premier and Minister of Finance and Tourism the Hon. Joseph Parry, hosted diplomatic and consular representatives accredited to St. Kitts Nevis at a luncheon at the scenic Botanical Gardens at Montpelier Estate on Nevis.
 
The Premier who had the opportunity to address the representatives on the strides made in the Nevis Financial Services sector one day before at the Ocean Terrace Inn, said he was happy for the opportunity to enlighten them about the jurisdiction and that they had visited Nevis.  He urged them to take with them fond memories of the island.
 
“I really enjoyed addressing you yesterday about our financial services and I must say that we know that we have people here from Switzerland that is the headquarters of financial services, so we are asking you to take back the message, to ensure that we make that direct connection with Switzerland, it will help our financial services sector to grow.

The decision of the d’ Vybz Band to introduce a new blend of music to the entertainment and carnival scene in St. Kitts & Nevis is already paying dividends for the seven, (7), member group of talented Kittitian musicians.

The music from the band’s latest CD, titled, “Life”, has been in full rotation on many radio stations overseas, including various cities in England.

For the past two weeks, d’Vybz has occupied the Number One spot, on the popular West Indian chart, hosted weekly on the well known internet radio station, VIBES FM, operating out of Sheffield, England.
