Nevisian Wins Sixth Annual Nevis Triathlon

Nevis made sports history on Sunday March 16, 2008, when the island’s top tri-athlete Mr. Reginald “˜Reggie” Douglas won the overall male title in the sixth annual Carino Nevis Olympic Triathlon and the top male Organisation of East Caribbean States (OECS) title. Minister of Sports on Nevis Hon. Hensley Daniel recorded the Nevis Island Administration’s (NIA) highest commendation and congratulations to the tri athlete for what he called an outstanding performance.
 
“I want to convey to him our [NIA] highest consideration and to say the Ministry of Sports will do all that it can to facilitate the development of tri athletes  and to facilitate his participation in similar events as we have done in the past in all of the sports.
 
“The Ministry of Sports is here to ensure that athletes excel and I feel that Reggie has demonstrated what can happen with training, with consistency and with a heavy focus on the prize. So again congratulations to Reggie and best wishes,” he said.

CARICOM To Give Special Attention To Tourism And Crime

Two important issues ““ tourism and crime and security ““ are to get special attention by Caribbean leaders over the next few months.

CARICOM will devote a full day during its regular meeting of Heads of Government in July to focus on Tourism, and has agreed for the first time to make Tourism a standard item on all CARICOM agendas in view of its importance to the economies of the region.

A Special Session of Heads of Government will be held in Trinidad in April of this year to discuss issues of crime and security.

CARICOM Secretary General His Excellency Dr Edwin Carrington, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr Denzil Douglas, Jamaica Prime Minister, the Most Honourable Bruce Golding, Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister, Hon. Patrick Manning and Bahamas’ Prime Minister the Right Hon. Hubert Ingraham also took part in the press conference at the end of the 19th Inter-Sessional of the Conference of Caribbean Heads of Government.

Nevis Police Patrol Enhanced With Bicycles

The Triathlon Federation and the Cycling Federation for Saint Kitts and Nevis in a brief ceremony on Friday March 07, 2008 handed over two Trek Bicycles to Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Ministry Mr. Joseph Wiltshire.  He accepted the bicycles on behalf of Premier of Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry for the Nevis Police Division.
 
Mr. Gregg Phillip a member of the organisation indicated that members of the joint Cycling and Triathlon Federation were inspired to donate the bicycles to show their expression of love for Nevis
 
He said “the organisation struggled with its financial resources and sacrificed the purchase of the Bicycles that are necessary for doing adequate policing in the community.”
