The Nevis Island Administration has announced ambitious plans to upgrade and expand the Vance W. Amory International Airport. Designed to improve the travel experience for visitors and residents, the project aims to modernize key airport facilities and support future demand.

In a recent Facebook post, the NIA shared early visuals of the proposed expansion. The administration emphasized that as global air travel evolves, Nevis must build an airport that meets today’s needs while preparing for tomorrow’s challenges.
The expansion is the result of extensive planning, collaboration, and innovation with goals that include:
- Enhancing overall passenger comfort and experience
- Improving operational efficiency for airlines and airport staff
- Supporting long-term sustainability and growth
Key Features of the Proposed Upgrade
The proposed airport plans showcase several major elements, including the future air traffic control tower, a renovated terminal, a modern fire station, and an expanded runway visible in the aerial renderings.
The plans were presented on Thursday during a consultation meeting discussing the scope of the upcoming works. According to Special Advisor Alexis Jeffers, the project will transform the airport through:
- Runway expansion
- New fuel farm
- Upgraded taxiways
- Extended apron
- Terminal renovations
- Construction of a new fire station
- Modernized control tower
Community Engagement and Economic Opportunity
Jeffers noted that Nevis has now entered the consultation phase, allowing the public to review the proposed works and share feedback. He added that the expansion will support increased tourism, boost investment, and make travel to the island more accessible.
Once completed, the airport is expected to attract additional international airlines and welcome hundreds of passengers to Nevis each week.
