Vance W Amory Airport – Nevis Island
Progress on Land Acquisition
The Nevis Island Administration is moving closer to beginning construction on the Vance W. Amory International Airport expansion project. Land purchase and exchange agreements with property owners affected by the upcoming development are in the final stages, creating a clear path for construction to start later in 2024.
Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley shared the latest details during his January 30, 2024 press conference. He noted that the administration has instructed officials to prepare the necessary purchase and sale agreements after negotiating prices for the required lands. These parcels, located on the mountainside near the current airport site, are now moving through formal documentation.
Brantley also addressed land needed in the direction of Nisbet Plantation. In this case, the government is working toward a property exchange to ensure the landowner is fairly compensated, allowing the project to move ahead without delay.
Updated Project Designs
The Premier reported that architects and consultants are finalizing design plans for the upgraded facility. These plans include adjustments to the trajectory of the island’s main road in the affected area. He emphasized that revised designs no longer require relocating homes, buildings, or a restaurant on the ocean side of the project, which had been part of the original proposal.
“That is no longer the case, and so those should not be affected by the new alignment that we are proposing,” he said, describing this change as positive news for the residents and businesses once thought to be impacted.
Consultant Team and Timeline
The consulting firm overseeing the project, Perez Engineering Construction and Consulting Services Limited, is now based in Nevis as preparations continue. Brantley stated that if progress stays on track, construction is expected to begin later this year. He added that the administration intends to share more detailed information with the public soon, including financing plans and finalized project designs.
Community Engagement
Special Advisor to the Premier on Investments Alexis Jeffers announced that public consultations will resume in March. These meetings will give residents an opportunity to review project updates and ask questions about the airport improvements.
Planned Airport Enhancements
The airport expansion project aims to significantly modernize the Vance W. Amory International Airport. Key upgrades include:

These improvements are expected to support growth in air travel, boost economic development, and improve overall safety and efficiency at the airport.
