Nevis Tourism Names Winners Of FCCA Competition

The Research and Development Unit of the Ministry of Tourism in the Nevis Island Administration, released the names of the winners of the Nevis leg of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Foundation for the Caribbean 2007 Children’s Environmental Poster Competition.
 
The poster competition is an annual event and this year the competition sought to promote and stimulate environmental awareness among Caribbean students, while at the same time, educating the younger generation on the importance of environmental protection.
 
Speaking to the Department of Information on Wednesday January 17, Research and Development Officer Ms. Vanessa Webbe said there were nine entries and that the Ministry was pleased with the responses.  “You can see the hard work that the children put in, you can see the creativity and that they were indeed thinking about environmental protection,” she said.
 
Aked Bailey of the St. Thomas’ Primary School won from a field of seven contestants in the junior category, while Lawvander Forbes of the Special Education Unit won from a field of two contestants in the senior category.  The winning posters are sent to the FCCA headquarters for final judging.
