Nevis Culturama Village To Open This Weekend

Nevis Culturama 2006 gets on the way on Saturday evening with the official opening of the Culturama Village a pre activity leading up to the July 28th-August 8th event..
 
The show will signal the start of the 32nd anniversary of the Caribbean’s greatest summer festival, “˜Culturama’.

The event is slated to commence at 9:00 pm at the Village in Charlestown and officials from the Culturama Committee will declare the village open as well as officially welcome all.
 
The legendary Timothy “Baron” Watkins will take centre stage with the house band, the Grand Masters of St .Kitts in attendance. 
 
Speaking to the Government Information Service on Thursday, Chairman of the Calypso Competition, Mr. Lloyd Lescott said that Mr. Watkins is a man who has rocked the Caribbean with sweet soca music for a number of years.  “We all know his capabilities, his abundance of talent and this man has the best voice in the world,” added Mr. Lescott.
 
Baron hails from the twin island of Trinidad and Tobago and has performed throughout the Caribbean.  His last performance was in Miami, Florida.  The evening is expected to see local calypsonians participating in the event.
 
Also on the Culturama calendar this weekend, the Ms Culture Queen Contestants 2006 will be hosting a fashion show at the Cultural Centre in Charlestown On Sunday July 23rd, as part of the pre activities for Culturama 2006.
