Nevis Cultural Administrators Participate In CARIFESTA 2006

Charlestown Nevis (September 21, 2006)
Three of Nevis‘ Cultural Administrators, Mr. Halstead Byron, Mr. Antonio Liburd and Mr. Chesley Davis departed Nevis earlier today to participate in the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) slated for September 22 to October 2, 2006 in Trinidad.

CARIFESTA which began in 1972 and is held every three to four years is the region’s premier cultural festival where most of the countries within the Caribbean would gather to celebrate their cultural history and heritage.

Speaking to the Government Information Services, Mr. Byron said that the administrators would join the St. Kitts contingent, which comprises of 20 persons.  He noted that the participation from the Federation this year’s was less than previous years.

Mr. Byron pointed out that not only would the group be looking at the management aspects of events and activities, but would be attending workshops and symposiums.

“We are particular interested in stage management because this is something that we fall very short of in Nevis.  All of the different aspects of art, their organisations, we would be looking at drama arts, performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, culinary arts and crafts.  We would also see if we get a chance to go over to Tobago to look at an organisation that stages a festival very similar to our own culturama,” said Mr. Byron.
