In a massive show of support for the visionary leadership and well-equipped slate of candidates of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), four of the nation’s most prominent icons across various sectors embraced the change that the party is about to bring to the nation.
The party saw a major highlight of its campaign on Friday, January, 2010 which attracted thousands of party supporters to George Street a few days before the nation’s general election. Prominent musician and composer of the National Anthem, Mr. Kenrick Georges, designer of the national flag Mrs. Edris Lewis-Viechweg; veteran educator and respected social and political commentator Mr. Washington Archibald and uprising hip-hop artiste Kervin “Infamus” Benjamin openly endorsed the party and its candidates.
Special focus was given to PAM candidate for East Basseterre (Constituency #1) Mr. Glenroy Blanchette for his service to the community and for his commitment to serve the people of his constituency.
Mr. Kenrick Georges was very succinct but spared no effort to encourage the massive crowd to go out on Election Day and vote overwhelming for Blanchette and the other PAM candidates.
“I only have one thing to say, vote Glenroy Blanchette and support the candidates of the PAM! Blanchette is a Newtown man, he knows and understands Newtown, its people and their concerns,” Mr. Georges said.
Another tribute of endorsement was given by Mrs. Edris Lewis-Viechweg, a community activist and respected national icon. She said, “As a born Newtowner, it gives me great pleasure to come here this evening to give my full endorsement to a fellow Newtowner Mr. Glenroy Blanchette.”

The crowd drew larger as elder Washington Archibald took to the stage. Mr. Archibald, who has been very vocal on matters of politics in recent times, said it gives him a good feeling to know that for the first time, Constituency number one has a representative that hails from one of its communities. Voters were urged to place their support behind Blanchette for visionary and honest representation for the next five years.
“It’s about time East Basseterre and Newtown elect one of their own, a family man, an honest man, a humble man, a married man,” he said.
The PAM candidate’s campaign was boosted by a young but amazing artiste Infamus who said Blanchette is a genuine and caring individual who has served communities on a personal level. The young singer performed one of his songs and dedicated the lyrics to Blanchette, endorsing the PAM candidate and encouraging others to join the train.
“Mr. Blanchetrte has been like a father to me, an inspiration and I am proud to give him my support,” Infamus said.
