St. Kitts – Nevis Celebrates 26 Years of Independence

September 16 ““ National Heroes Day will be made a bit more special for 20 young persons as they are recognized for contributions to national development.
On that night, the honourees will each receive a 2009 Independence Youth Award during a 7:00 p.m. ceremony at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel.
“There are young people who “¦ have had years of exemplary service to our country, and our community and whose own lives would have impacted the lives of many other young people,” National Coordinator for the 26th Independence Committee, Crios Freeman, told SKNIS, in a previous interview.
He noted that this made it important for outstanding youth to be acknowledged in this manner ““ sharing the day with the Late Right Excellent Robert L. Bradshaw, the Late Right Excellent Sir Joseph N. France and the Late Sir Caleb Azariah Paul Southwell ““ three giants in the Federation’s rich history.
Having met a prescribed criteria, the successful candidates will receive their awards in the presence of the Governor General His Excellency Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, the Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth Honourable Sam Condor and other dignitaries.
They will represent the field of music, social reform, advocacy, education, sports and community involvement and services. Contributors through religion, culture, agriculture and health will also be honoured.
St. Kitts and Nevis marks 26 years of political Independence on September 19, 2009.
