Farewll Dinner Hosted By Premier Parry
Nisbett Plantation
Nevis, West Indies
April 28, 2009
A grand farewell dinner took place at the Nisbett’s Plantation Inn last Saturday evening as the Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry hosted an event in honour of the Second Conference of Women Parliamentarians of the Caribbean, which was held here on Nevis, April 23-25, 2009.
The theme of the Conference was “Harnessing and Capitalizing Parliamentarians to input the legislative Agenda.”
During the dinner, Premier Parry described the Nisbett Plantation Inn as a very historical place associated with Lord Horatio Nelson and Lady Nisbett.
“We want when you return to your respective homes, you tell everyone about the friendly people and warm hospitality you received on Nevis. We also hope you promote the islands tourism,” said the Premier.
Following the Premier’s brief remarks, Bermuda’s Parliamentarian, Ms. D. Neletha Butterfield thanked the Premier for his hospitality and promised to get the word out about Nevis as a tourist destination.
“I will ensure that the word of Nevis being a great travel spot gets out and that will not be difficult, since many Bermudians are familiar with this island and some have St. Kitts-Nevis family ties. I must also say, Nevis is a magnificent island and I truly enjoyed my stay here,” remarked Ms. Butterfield.
The idea of the conference was to bring focus to women issues considering that women parliamentarians have a very dynamic role in parliamentary matters.
Honorary Secretary of the Nevis branch of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Mr. Dwight Morton said the conference was a great success and he hopes to keep an ongoing relationship with all the participants.
Seven islands participated in the conference, among them were: Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Montserrat, Bermuda, Jamaica, Grenada, and host country Nevis which was represented by President of the Nevis Island Assembly, Mrs. Marjorie Morton.
