Nevis’ Premier Parry Signing Waterfront Development Agreement
Charlestown, Nevis
October 27, 2009
Nevis Premier, the Hon. Joseph Parry signed a lease and development agreement with Namdar Brothers Reality for the redevelopment of the Charlestown Waterfront. The signing ceremony took place at the conference room at the Bath Hotel on Monday, October 27, 2009.
“The up-market development would be attractive to cruise and land based tourists. The site would hold up to 25 or more stores, with a number of them selling brand name clothing, leather goods, duty free perfumes and restaurants,” said Premier Parry.
Based on the agreement, the Namdar Brothers Realty will have a lease of 25 years and will be granted the opportunity to develop the Charlestown waterfront with the use of local contractors.
Mr. Parry noted that it was important for local workers to be employed to execute the bulk of the work on the major project as the development project would be beneficial to Nevis.
Meanwhile, the project will develop the concession land as a multi-phased, master- planned mixed use development and would be readily accessible to cruise and non cruise visitors at all times.
The project will encompass areas consisting of the Customs Building, the waterfront and surrounding market and would be called Harbour Village. This development will serve the multi-needs of cruise visitors, hotel guests and local residents.
Witnessing the signing ceremony were Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Ashley Farrell, Legal Advisor, Hon. Patrice Nisbett, legal officer Ms. Shemica Maloney, Permanent Secretary in Tourism, Mr. Tyrone O’Flaherty and Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Julie Williams.
