February 11, 2010 (CUOPM)
Brazil’s First Resident Ambassador to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has arrived in Basseterre.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disclosed that Ambassador-designate, His Excellency Miguel Junior França Chaves de Magalhãse, arrived here on February 6th.
Preparations are being made for the Brazilian diplomat to present his credentials to Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and newly-appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor.
Ambassador França is also in the process of identifying suitable locations for his office and residence.
He obtained a law degree in 1974, worked in Ministry of Justice and has held several diplomatic appointments including Third Secretary in Tanzania, Second Secretary, First Secretary, Japan and Argentina; Counselor, Spain and Bolivia Counsel General in Chicago and San Francisco in the United States.
Ambassador França replaces Non-Resident Ambassador, His Excellency Orlando Galveas Oliviera, who was based in Barbados.
Relations between Brazil and St. Kitts and Nevis has improved over the years. A key aspect which will prove beneficial to the twin-island Federation is the partial scope Agreement (PSA) which CARICOM intends to sign with both Brazil and Guyana.
St.Kitts and Nevis has intensified interest in acceding to the Brazil-Guyana PSA which will offer tremendous opportunities for manufactured products particular the electronic component sector.
Approval has been received from COTED to proceed with negotiation with Brazil and Guyana in order to accede to the said agreement.
“This is a very important initiative for the Federation as preferential market access to Brazil can yield tremendous economic benefits. The PSA will also provide social benefits geared towards the reduction in the poverty,” a senior Foreign Service Officer said.
Sorry for the incorrect spelling. Hopefully I got it right this time.
Thanks for the input.

Dear Sirs,
Thank you for the kind covering given to my arrival in this beautiful country.
I realize that spelling names in Portuguese can be complicated and in my own case, my parents did not make the task any easier. So, for the record, the correct name of the Brazilian Ambassador to the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis is Miguel Junior França Chaves de Magalhãse.
Thank you
Miguel Magalhães
