Construction is to start soon on the US$30 million Silver Reef Resort on St. Kitts’ Frigate Bay.
The project involves the construction of 54 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments and 8 duplex villas, two swimming pools and a small, but much needed, 12,000 square foot commercial area, which has attracted local entrepreneurs wishing to bring their expertise in the form of restaurants, shops and a bank.
“This exciting development is unique in its combination of smart condominium apartments and exclusive private villas laid out in a lush, tropical setting of thoughtfully landscaped gardens punctuated with signature pools and cabanas. Its stunning location, running beside the immaculate Royal St. Kitts Golf Course will make it a landmark resort,” said Chairman of Silver Reef, Mr. Sebastian Mottram.
He said that the 4.5 acre Silver Reef Resort has been 18 months in the planning and it is anticipated that it will be another 20 months in the execution.
“Our vision for Silver Reef was to make our development as eco-sensitive as possible. Building is not an eco friendly activity per se but we have listened to local advice and made provision, wherever possible, to use the latest information on keeping things “˜green’,” said Mottram.
He disclosed that the result is a combination of common sense principles like orienting the buildings to maximize the breeze and recycling grey water. The resort will also use solar power and local building materials to minimise the carbon footprint.
“Because of its prominent location within the Frigate Bay area, we were particularly keen to create an iconic development which would compliment the natural beauty of its surroundings” said Mottram.
“I think this will provide a focal point of interest and be of service to residents of Silver Reef and Frigate Bay alike,” said Mottram.
He said the property will be fenced to allow earthworks to begin by the end of May to protect the public and secure the construction site. An formal ground breaking ceremony is to be held in July.
