Work continues on the first phase of the US$25 million Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole championship golf course, which is part of the Christophe Harbor Development on St. Kitts’ South East Peninsula.
“We continue to shape the earth at Priddies Plateau in anticipation of the installation of the golf course itself. This first phase ““ which is the earth works phase ““ is now roughly 50 percent complete and should be finished by August this year,” said Elebash.
He was quick to clarify that the earth is being prepared for the start of the construction of the golf course by August. “It does not mean that the golf course would be ready by August.”
The Christophe Harbor 2,500-acre development will encompass a mega-yacht harbor and marina village, hotels, ocean front homes, luxury villas, hotel residences, the golf course and shops surrounded by six pristine beaches.
The US$2 billion project is being undertaken by Kiawah Development Partners. Company Chairman American Charles Pinckney (Buddy) Darby said late last year that the global economic conditions will not deter his company from moving forward with the Christophe Harbor Development.
“We are not going to let economic conditions deter our enthusiasm for this project,” said Darby at the groundbreaking ceremony for the 18-hole championship golf course late last year.
Darby, who has had primary responsibility for Kiawah’s development activities, overseeing all operations in the development of Kiawah Island, a 10,000-acre sea island located 21 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina, expressed confidence that with “golfing in our blood, this course at Christophe Harbor will be one of the finest, if not the finest in the Caribbean.”
To date the Beach House Restaurant and six bungalows have been completed and the first of several homes is under construction.
